Mr Diane is a sculptor based in Africa and runs a family business making carvings. His family is shown in the picture. He lives off the income generated by the sale of the carvings.
The sculptors have developed significant skills over the years. Great care and attention is given to each item and the final result reveals tremendous imagination on their part. Prior to the start of each job the basic wood has to be dried thoroughly.
Where trees have been felled to produce the raw material, replanting is undertaken as soon as is possible.
We at Francineg acknowledge the difficulty of families living in or close to poverty and try to look after those who work for us. Like some other businesses we also appreciate the need to look after the planet for future generations. The timber is taken from sustainable sources and we attempt to involve ourselves in assisting the workers to achieve their goals as far as replenishing the forest is concerned
